The goal at Kusuda is to craft Pinot Noir with sheer purity and finesse. Pinot Noir, one of the grapes that create the finest red wines in the world, is the type of red wine grape that owner Hiroyuki Kusuda likes best of all.
His dream of producing a Pinot Noir acknowledged at the highest level prompted his move to New Zealand in May 2001. He believes this wine district has great potential to grow great Pinot Noir grapes and produce great Pinot Noir wine.
Hiro is a dedicated perfectionist, an extraordinary wine producer creating wines that are truly exceptional.
He explained "even if there is only 5% difference, it is enough."
The Real Review Winery of the Year New Zealand 2022 was Kusuda from Martinborough.

Kusuda is small producer that owns or leases just 3.8 hectares of vineyards planted to pinot noir, riesling and syrah. Owner Hiroyuki (Hiro) Kusuda manages the business with the help of his son (Kensuke) and a few friends during harvest.

A total of 159 wineries made this year’s Top Wineries of New Zealand 2022 list.
Meticulous attention to detail and a great deal of hard work has resulted in wines with amazing purity, subtle power and the ability to develop well with bottle age.
