By day they are two unassuming Wellington bureaucrats who move unnoticed, hidden within the shadows of the nine-to-five, their identity concealed by spreadsheets and government policy; but...by night their passion for fine things is awoken and from the depths of Wellington's 1st gin distillery they create the finest of craft gins. Gins of the people, by the people, for the people.
The Bureaucrat is a distillation of ten carefully selected botanicals, delivering the traditional juniper and coriander followed by an audacious hit of heady cinnamon, finishing with delicate yet complex nutty profiles and undertones of aniseed and sweetness. Now with a new distillery in operation North West of Auckland, the team are also helping to insure the longevity of New Zealand’s whisky making tradition.
Two Tone refers to the two kinds of cask used for the maturation of this whisky; European oak which formerly held New Zealand red wine and American white oak used exclusively for whisky. Find sea air and caramelised fruits on the nose, followed by red berries, apricot and spice on the palate.
In place of an age statement the infinity symbol marking this bottling is symbolic of the marriage of casks.
Scurvy & Gunpowder Proof. A navy strength gin with the additional flavours of lime peel and gunpowder green tea. 57% abv.

They take their inspiration from the Royal Navy's regulation measure of Vitamin C for all hands, as well as the parallel history of the East India company and its globe-spanning trade in tea as an adjunct of Empire (with the might of the RN in a supporting role).
Most excellent with grapefruit juice for a 'Salty Sea Dog', it also pairs well with oloroso sherry.
