This is a one-time-only, one per customer-only, six-bottle case of rare Pinot Noir, built around one of New Zealand's most sought-after wines. In just under a quarter of a century, Hiro Kusuda has built a brand with extraordinary worldwide demand. The 2024 vintage in Martinborough has been described by some commentators as perfect. To me, it shows just how far winemakers can push the horizon when they're standing on giants' shoulders, under crystal-clear skies and still air.
We've included 2 bottles of the 2024 Kusuda Pinot Noir — on tasting, it shows beautifully honed fruit concentration and acid balance, with tannin's of a rare elegance and oak integration that most winemakers strive for and few ever achieve.
We've added a cellar release of 1 bottle of 2023 Kusuda Pinot Noir, which now shows a measured, refined fruit weight for this harvest — a delicacy and lightness best savoured with the right food match.
We've also added a 1 bottle of Dry River Pinot Noir 2024 — this harvest gave Ben McNab full scope to hone and develop character, and we thought it deserved a place here as a comparator to the Kusuda.
Next is 1 bottle of Oraterra's 2024 Pinot Noir — their second release, and a significant step up from 2023. Wilco, who helmed Dry River before McNab, has seized the opportunity presented by the old Crosby-owned "On Giants Shoulders" vineyard, and is producing vibrantly idiosyncratic wines.
Finally, a tiny allocation of a genuinely unique wine: we include 1 bottle of Mirae Pinot Noir — which answers the age-old question of poachers-turned-gamekeepers. This first release comes from James and Marie Suckling's Pinot Noir vineyard in the heart of Martinborough. James Suckling travels the world scrutinizing grapes, vines and wines on the most exhausting Instagram account I've ever followed. This wine has been shaped by the razor-focused Helen Masters of Ata Rangi and the brilliant international viticulturist Marco Simonit.
This six-pack is offered — for a very limited time and quantity — at $NZD899 plus NZ freight.
We're happy to store six-packs in a secure, temperature-stable facility used by almost all Martinborough winemakers, for clients who'd like to collect their case at leisure. Storage costs $28 NZD per month, payable on pickup ex Martinborough Wine Merchants. Please give us 7 days' prior notice.
