Pinot Noir was left on the vines well after harvest to gain ripeness and some botrytis to produce this fascinating wine. A short period of skin contact has resulted in the tawny rose colour and provides a subtle back bone of tannin. Aromas of grapefruit marmalade with caramelised fruit lead into a rich honeyed palate with red currant and intriguing flavours of a Tokay or Madeira wine. Richly fruited but with crisp acidity this wine is well suited to drinking with blue cheese or a spiced fruit cake.
Bright straw-yellow, this has an excellent lifted bouquet of ripe, honeyed gooseberries, passionfruit and lime marmalade, showing true varietal Sauvignon character with botrytis influence. Rich and lush, the wine features elevated levels of acidity with concentration of marmalade; gooseberry, tropical fruits and honey on the palate with a long unctuous finish. Try with apricot tarte tatin or passionfruit cheesecake.
Escarpment Hinemoa Late Harvest Riesling 375ml 2015
100% grown from our Te Muna Road site in what can be considered a remarkable year for the variety.
A very sweet style (186g/l sugar) has been created from individual bunch selected grapes. They were carefully skin contacted for 24 hours then gently pressed to yield the precious high sugar must. Using the German classification this wine would be Beerenauslese quality.
An ideal match with fruit based desserts, soft cheeses or enjoy as an aperitif for something to liven up your taste buds.
It is a true reflection of Martinborough’s distinctive terroir. Cellar for up to five years successfully.
Beautiful light gold colour with a slight tinge of green in colour, this wine has a fragrant, pungent, varietal aroma. This will develop more in bottle. The palate is richly sweet with good weight and fruitfulness. It is well balanced, again with elegance and finesse. Lower alcohol and lower T.A makes this wine a long living wine with an even richer flavour potential in time. Cellar medium term for 7 to 10 years in a cooler cellar.
Beautiful light gold colour with a slight tinge of green in colour, this wine has a fragrant, pungent, varietal aroma that will develop more in bottle. The palate is just off dry with good weight and fruitfulness and a hint of residual sweetness. It is well balanced, again with elegance and finesse. A long living wine with a richer flavour potential in time. Keep for a medium term, 7 to 10 years in a cooler cellar.
The term 'selection' for this wine indicates how the grapes were picked. The ripest parcels of fruit (picked later) with low sugar content and high acidity, and little incidence of Botrytis. The aim was to produce a Riesling with low alcohol level, high residual sugar and high acidity in order to create a tension between these components.Their two Craighall Riesling blocks have different aspects to the sun, and by combining selected picks from both they have achieved fruit ripeness and strong acidity in this style.
