Margrain Vineyard Gruner Veltliner 2024

This medium-dry (11g/l residual sugar) wine was crafted from the ancient Austrian grape variety which is currently undergoing a renaissance in this country.  25% of the blend was fermented in aged oak with half that put through malolactic fermentation to fill out the mid palate.  The remainder was cleanly fermented in stainless steel and then blended to produce an intensely flavoured wine, to be enjoyed on its own or as an accompaniment to zesty food.  Imagine a pot-bellied Riesling with a wicked attitude.  Cellared appropriately it should provide excellent drinking from 2024 to 2029.
