Cambridge Road Vineyard is a small, 5.5 acre estate in the esteemed Martinborough Terrace Appellation.
Lance Redgewell and his family are the newest stewards of this vineyard, which was first planted in Pinot Noir and Syrah grapes in 1986; previously known as the Fraser Block. The vines are amongst the oldest in the country and Cambridge Road Vineyard continue their management with love and pride.
Lance says,"For us, small means beautiful. We focus our time and energy on perfecting and beautifying our land and cultivate it according to natural biodynamic principles. Our commitment is to making fine, handcrafted wines through meticulous viticulture and traditional winemaking techniques."
Animus was born of a desire to reflect their more masculine take on Pinot Noir and the character of the Martinborough Terrace. They work with organically grown fruit sourced from old vines that they personally tend. The wine is renowned for its dark spice and fruit plus a little sauvage meaty character to complex them both.
They are lucky to have a small parcel of old Syrah vines at Cambridge Road. The wines continue to astound with their varietal definition and delicious natural balance. This is their smallest production of wine yet arguably making the highest impact for them around the world.
