Te Muna Valley™ Wines are made at Redbank Estate Ltd, an 11.5 hectare vineyard on Te Muna Road (Maori for secret or special place), about seven kilometres out of Martinborough in southern Wairarapa.
Our grapes are sustainably grown on the property and hand-picked for all our wines which are made in our winery by winemaker Simon Groves, under the direction of owner Colin Carruthers. Predominantly, we grow Pinot Noir, and with 2017 are into our fourteenth labelled vintage.
We also make three styles of Pinot Gris, Syrah, Viognier, Chardonnay, pink Methode Traditionelle, and Rose.
The aim with our James blend is to create an elegant and complex example of Martinborough's classic red wine that looks towards Burgundy but acknowledges our own special place in Martinborough's Te Muna Valley. In a barrel by barrel selection process we unite unique wines from our best vineyard and ferment parcels to create James PInot Noir.
Deep, complex and evolving nose of fruits of the forest and mixed spice. Rich, powerful and full bodied palate with tannins finely integrated into a mouth filling core. The wine finishes elegantly with excellent intensity of flavour.
The 'Hawk' is one of Te Muna Valley wine’s premium Pinot Noir labels.
The Hawk 2013 is approximately 50:50 Pommard and 667 clones. Matured in older oak and blended with a clear intention to emphasise the fruit quality of the vintage and varietal characteristics. The Hawk has both immediate appeal and the potential to cellar.
The 'James' Pinot Gris seeks to harvest only those grapes with a deep intensity of flavour and a clear potential to yield outstanding purity and balance in the finished wine.
They look for varietal typicity, power, concentration, great balance and a capacity to bottle age. James 2013 Pinot Gris is a wine inspired by the full bodied, off dry Pinot Gris styles of Alsace, France.
Suitable from aperitif to entrée and the main meal with a real affinity for accompaniment to rich, weighty and mildly spiced foods.
"Appealing scented wine with fresh peach, mango, guava and pawpaw flavours. Moderately sweet but perfectly balanced wine with an ethereal texture and a lingering finish. Fascinating wine with loads of appeal." - Bob Campbell 93/100

"An interesting blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah with a small percentage barrel fermented. Off/dry Rose with fine tannins giving a drying finish. Good weight and and texture with a little heat showing from high-ish alcohol of 14.5%. Interesting wine." - Bob Campbell
